Many people are willing to make changes to their routines, some even to their lifestyles in the greater cause of saving the planet.
But when it comes to paying out hard cash, firm green intentions often become a little wobbly, previous surveys have shown.
Now, however, a poll of 22,000 people in 21 countries shows that many would be prepared to pay higher bills, so long as they could be sure their money was going direct to help stop global warming by raising energy efficiency or developing clean energy sources.
Even green taxes could were grudgingly accepted if they were offset by cuts in taxation elsewhere.
How much would you be willing to pay for the planet in this way? Or do you think a change to the way we live is enough for now?

Since big business has profited from ruining the environment, first step is to outlaw any business that trashes the planet.
Let’s start with Big Oil and include any power plants that burn coal, all auto manufactures, the timber industry, the chemical industry…. you get the idea.
It’s time to outlaw and bankrupt those businesses before their blind greed kills us all.
For me to pay more money so these bastards can continue to ruin our world and profit from it too seems like a stupid proposal.
But not one you are above advancing to maintain the status quo.
- Posted by JohnHow appropriate that this article is next to an ad for Chevron! How much are they willing to pay?
Exxon is still litigating the Exxon Valdez spill instead of paying up for putting a drunk at the wheel of an oil supertanker. How much will they pay to fix the mess THEY created?
Nice of you to be so clear about who pays to set your agenda, and the slant of your reporting as well.
- Posted by JohnGlobal warming is a big con, there is no proof that there is a real problem, just an excuse for politicians to tax us more. Has anyone thought of this point, in 2030-2050 we will have run out of light oil (petrol/diesel), then what do we put in the atmosphere?
- Posted by Richard VanbergenOver the last 1000 years climate has changed not because of CO2, but because climate changes (chaos theory).
Further no credible person has said there is a problem, the people that have said there is a problem are paid by the state to say that.
The world needs to think differently if they are to overcome Global Warming.
They need to think Environomically before they invest their money.
- Posted by David ConstantineNow that the world’s largest oil company is failing to earn profits, it might spur their leaders on to more green thinking. Since the NewsVisual article on ExxonMobil http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/200 7/11/exxonmobil.html shows the board has experienced people, the company should be able to find ways to safeguard the environment.
- Posted by Sally LongI think that this idea of global warming is rediculous. Over and over again, people believe what they are spoon-fed by Al Gore and other liberal earth-worshippers. Now, I’m not suggesting that we act like idiots and destroy what we have, but the earth-worship that is overtaking the world is rediculous. Legitimate scientists from legitimate educational establishments continue to disprove the THEORIES of global warming scare scientists but no one seems to listen. Much of the populace has lost the desire, or possibility, to think for themselves. Thus, America specifically has become one of the most uneducated countries in the world. The general belief is that, “If it’s on the World News Tonight” it has to be true. If a liberal professor says something, he has to be right. I mean, he’s the one with a doctorate.” What ever happened to people thinking for themselves? No, I would not be willing to pay higher bills simply to curb the effects of the so called “global warming” taking place. I would certainly advocate the continued study of alternate energy sources and things of that nature. However, when politics enters science, the earth is no longer the main concern. Control is the main topic. Liberal politicians want to control every aspect of every person’s life. They believe they know better. Let’s consider the current situation in America. Oil prices are expected to hit $100 a barrel. Now how could America combat the high prices at the pump? By drilling for more oil in Alaska. Why aren’t we drilling in Alaska? It’s because of liberal politicians and environmentalists who HATE our country and want to see it collapse. They present a pathetic argument like, “The caribou…the poor caribou…DO YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE CARIBOU AND OTHER POOR LITTLE WOODLAND CREATURES IF YOU DRILLED FOR OIL IN ALASKA?????” Now the average person, unfortunately, would agree with this argument because it comes from “valid” sources such as the “News” or some doctorate-holding scientist. However, it has been proven that the caribou would most likely not care. In fact, the pipeline that runs from Alaska now actually attracts the caribou. They like the warmth of the pipes.
- Posted by MikeI simply wish people would study things more thoroughly on their own rather than taking each word they hear from “credible” sources as God’s given Truth. I’m for wise stewardship of the planet; not earth worship and control.
