The mayoral candidates have set out their plans for London.

Crime, affordable housing and public transport are discussed at length in their manifestos.

Ken Livingstone says he will raise the congestion charge in October for drivers of cars with high emissions. Boris Johnson says the plan is flawed and should be scrapped.

The mayor says that crime is falling and more houses are being built for ordinary people.

If he wins a third term, he promises that trains and buses will improve.

He says that only he can be trusted to oversee the huge public transport improvements planned for the capital ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

Johnson and Paddick say it’s time for a change on May 1.

The Conservative hopeful thinks Livingstone has become stale after eight years in power.

The mayor’s rivals tell voters they will offer a new approach.

They’ve unveiled their campaign proposals. But what would you do if you were in charge of City Hall for the day?

Issue a unilateral declaration of independence for Greater London, launch a new currency (I would expect this to immediately soar in value against the poor old pound) pay keyworkers much higher salaries than is possible under current national structures, and allow the economic powerhouse that is London to float free of the great unwashed beyond the M25.

Lets hope commoncence prevails!
Whatever Kens failings they would be totally eclipsed by have a clown as mayor.

- Break up and close down ghettos
- Disallow benefits to any illegal immigrant or asylum seeker (we have to stop this practice which is sucking our own life blood)
- automatic 5 years plus and 10 years plus respectively for carrying knives or firearms
- automatic minimum 1 year for road rage
- bring back the beat bobby in every street
- cap hotel prices
- introduce Ofhot - similar to Ofcom/Ofsted etc. (we are all fed up with ridiculous high prices and zero service)
- introduce a scheme to build flyovers to assist traffic in and out of London in all directions - toll bridges if need be
- fines for house owners with rubbish in their gardens
- as in Muslim Malaysia, ban the use of any so-called religious face covering totally
- high level pollution in London is countered by trees and greenery almost everywhere, both encourage this more and assist councils and individuals alike to promote

If any politician has the guts to do these (and other) things, he or she would have a landslide victory in any election in this land. Our beautiful England.

Turn back the clock and restore London to the vibrant open city it used to be. Under Livingstone it has become precisely what you would expect under Red Ken the communist. I would get rid of the congestion charge and make more pedestrian only zones. I would banish all the illegal immigrants that the communist Blunkett waved through illegally. I would bring back hanging but only for dishonest, communist, corrupt traitorous politicians. “That means you Brown!” I would hold a proper and full independent investigation into 7/7 bombings and let Londoners punish the real perpetrators. I would hold responsible the security services MI5 & MI6 for all the terrorism and hard drugs and organised crime in and around London for the last 40 years and then sack the bloody lot of them and replace them all honest patriotic Englishman. And finally I would set up web site were Londoners could make suggestions on how London should be run and implement the wishes of true Londoners. In summary I would work with the people not against them (or rather not with elitist politicians).

I would fire all my staff and triple all my pay then take a holiday for 2 month until the press get board and find someone else to bother.

Why does Reuters, for so long a distinguished news agency, give space and therefore some level of credence to sub-cretinous drivel like the above?
