The British pound came close to failing this year, I bet they wished they had swapped them all out for Euros ! But seriously it has been one of the more stable currencies save a few times in history.

I’ve checked with our banking correspondent and he says his understanding is they won’t get any free shares, unless they own A&L shares in addition to their A&L mortgage. Their mortgage will just be handled by Santander, and possibly rebranded Abbey or Santander (although no news yet on branding).
