Comments on: A voice in the wilderness? http://blogs.reuters.com/uknews/2009/10/09/a-voice-in-the-wilderness/ Insights from the UK and beyond Tue, 15 Nov 2016 20:30:03 +0000 hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=4.2.5 By: whodidwhatandwhy http://blogs.reuters.com/uknews/2009/10/09/a-voice-in-the-wilderness/comment-page-1/#comment-11956 Mon, 12 Oct 2009 10:55:25 +0000 http://blogs.reuters.com/uknews/?p=4485#comment-11956 “..the aggression on Iraq” – I seem to recall that it was the Iraqi aggression on Kuwait by invading that country on August 2, 1990, that led to the larger conflict.
The mass genocide perpetrated by Saddam Hussein on the Northern Kurds and his invasion of Iran on 22 September 1980 leading to the war which lasted until 1998
notwithstanding, I cannot recall any military invasions or aggressions on Iraq by either the USA or UK up until this particular incident.
Unfortunately you cannot rewrite history to fit your argument or point of view, and life is such, that countries as well as individuals sometimes make the wrong choices.

Some say it’s to secure oil supplies

In any event it’s hands-on live training for US, UK and other troops

The western taxpayer pays with money
The local population pays with lives and property

Nothing changes

To try and score cheap points by attacking an opponent with the benefit of hindsight is moronic and pointless and for all their faults and all too many human failings I do not believe that Mr Tony Blair or for that matter Mr George Bush both practising christians and at the time leaders of democratic free nations, would or could be so callous as to put in harms way the sons and daughters of their fellow citizens and accept the inevitable killing and maiming of many innocent victims in another region of the world without being utterly convinced that what they were sanctioning was both morally sound and the correct course of action to undertake at that particular moment in time.
To suggest that this war was started for any other reasons than those already given by the participants concerned is reprehensible, downright evil and insults the bravery and commitment of those who have fallen and the many thousands who continue to serve in the theater.

For 9 Months the American’s used 300 Specialist’s
to search Iraq, in the hope of finding evidence of Weapons of Mass Destructions & Chemical Warfare.
At the end of the 9 Month search- The head of this mission Declared ” We have found nothing and there probably was Nothin To Find”.

Yes, I share that view.
