Honda, others recall another 2.9 mln vehicles over air bag flaw

TOKYO, June 23 (Reuters) – Honda Motor Co and other
Japanese automakers on Monday recalled more cars with
potentially explosive air bags supplied by Takata Corp,
bringing the total recall so far to around 10.5 million vehicles
over the past five years.

The series of recalls cover both passenger-side and
driver-side air bags, which the world’s second-biggest
automotive safety parts maker manufactured in 2000-02. The total
ranks it among the five biggest recalls in the industry’s
history.

Japan plans ample support for fuel cell car technology

TOKYO (Reuters) – The Japanese government is planning to offer ample support to popularize fuel cell vehicle technology as Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motor Co prepare to launch hydrogen-powered cars in 2015.

Japan regulator orders Honda, others to decide soon on air bag recalls

TOKYO, June 12 (Reuters) – Japan’s transport ministry has
ordered carmakers including Honda Motor Co and Nissan
Motor Co to decide as soon as possible whether they
need to recall more vehicles over potentially faulty air bags
made by Takata Corp.

The instruction to Honda, Nissan, Mazda Motor Corp
and the Japanese arm of BMW came after Toyota on
Wednesday expanded last year’s recall saying Takata had not
fully provided serial numbers of potentially flawed air bag
inflators.

Faulty Takata air bags prompt expanded Toyota recall

TOKYO/DETROIT, June 11 (Reuters) – Takata Corp’s
safety crisis deepened on Wednesday after Toyota Motor Corp
recalled almost 2.3 million vehicles globally, many for
the second time, and the Japanese air bag maker warned that
further fixes may be needed.

The world’s largest automaker called back 1.62 million
vehicles outside of Japan that it recalled last year as well as
650,000 more in Japan not previously recalled. The additional
vehicles brought to more than 7 million the total number of cars
equipped with Takata air bags to be called back worldwide over
the last five years.
