Hunting foxes and photos
Darius Ivan uses the foggy background to bring his subject into focus in this frame from a fox hunt in the west Ireland county of Galway. By catching the movement of both the horse and hounds perfectly, Darius has created one of this week’s most memorable photos.
Festival stories
Boian Hristov has been a regular contributor to Your View for some time now but it’s his pictures from the recent masquerade festival in Bulgaria that have struck me the most. Boian has managed to capture the individual stories within the festival and created compelling portraits of those involved by pulling them clear of the background. A selection of some of the best are below.
It’s all white in black and white
With all the pictures of the recent snowfalls across the U.S., this one stood out in it’s simplicity. A quiet moment in a private space where photographer Anindya Chakraborty captured the beauty of nature.
Typhoon wreckage
Your View contributor Jeffrey Liam took this photo of fishing boats stranded inland after Typhoon Ketsana struck Vietnam last September.
Liam’s photo has a well-composed balance of elements and color. The muted earth colors of the sand and the woman’s shirt are contrasted by the punched-up blue of the sky and the turquoise of the ship’s hull. Her eyes also help lead the viewer’s attention to the detailed planking of the ship.
Mother Nature
Contributor Nabil Hijjawi captured the devastation in Port-au-Prince moments after the quake.
And contributor Jim Martin gives us this image of a frozen tree in Ohio.
Snow dog

Pain: A close-up view
Sometimes it takes getting in close to a situation to really capture what the subject is going through. Your View contributor Mohamed Heikkal Ismail does exactly that in this photograph of a boy grimacing as he is circumcised in Malaysia.
A top business model
Your View contributor Fuad Abdullah had to go to great heights to capture this image, taken on top of the Tangkuban Perahu volcano in Indonesia. Making the effort to explore different locations can often result in intriguing photographs.
Hazy shade of Dhaka
By combining a silhouetted worker and the headlights of a vehicle, Your View contributor Saad Shahriar has depicted what a hazy night on the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh, looks like.
All about Eid
This week, both the Reuters Pictures wire and the submissions to Your View were dominated by pictures of the Muslim festival of sacrifice, Eid al-Adha. This photo from Saad Shahriar in Bangladesh clearly captures the desperation some people feel to get home to celebrate the festival with friends and family. Saad used a slow shutter speed to add a hurried sense to the chaotic scene.
