Our Take on Your Take
Our picks of your pics
It’s all white in black and white
With all the pictures of the recent snowfalls across the U.S., this one stood out in it’s simplicity. A quiet moment in a private space where photographer Anindya Chakraborty captured the beauty of nature.
Picturing pain
Empathy is not always an easy emotion to bring out in viewers but this picture from Farzana Hossen of a woman reacting to a fire that destroyed her home in a slum in Bangladesh certainly brought it out in me. Farzana’s use of black and white seems to emphasis the woman’s face and grief.
Battered warrior
The high contrast look of black and white, combined with the overhead light source and the expression on the fighter’s face help Afif Rahim produce a dramatic photo that looks like a scene straight out of a classic boxing film.
Auschwitz in black and white
By using black and white to photograph the museum at Auschwitz, Carmine Flamminio has created a haunting image that details the textures and tones of this pile of human hair.
Quiet of the moment
By using black and white for his image of Israelis observing a moment’s silence to mark Memorial Day, Dan Bar-Dov allows the viewer to focus on the content and gives you the sense of the stillness and silence.
