Festival stories
Boian Hristov has been a regular contributor to Your View for some time now but it’s his pictures from the recent masquerade festival in Bulgaria that have struck me the most. Boian has managed to capture the individual stories within the festival and created compelling portraits of those involved by pulling them clear of the background. A selection of some of the best are below.
All about Eid
This week, both the Reuters Pictures wire and the submissions to Your View were dominated by pictures of the Muslim festival of sacrifice, Eid al-Adha. This photo from Saad Shahriar in Bangladesh clearly captures the desperation some people feel to get home to celebrate the festival with friends and family. Saad used a slow shutter speed to add a hurried sense to the chaotic scene.
Looking smart while throwing stones
Dado Ruvic combines timing, composition and cropping to provide a comical portrait of a stone-throwing competitor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dado nails the timing with the competitor’s mouth open just wide enough to reveal his two teeth, creates strong visual composition and crops just tight enough to leave in the appropriate t-shirt slogan.
