Kashmir with a view
Despite Kashmir making news in recent weeks due to violent anti-India protests, photographer Anirban Dey presents the beauty of the region in the image above. The tranquility depicted in the image conflicts with the almost daily unrest reported.
Feeling the disappointment of a nation
Brazil went into the World Cup carrying the expectations of a nation but failed to bring home the trophy after their defeat to the Netherlands. Your View contributor Sergio captures accurately the devastation of one of the team’s fans in this photo.
Healthcare: Topic of the week
The signing of the U.S. healthcare bill and the debate raging around its passing dominated headlines this week. This photo from Tia Warhall shows protesters outside Capitol Hill. Finding photos that match the news story of the day is an important skill for photographers and Tia does it perfectly with this frame.
Reflecting on women’s day
Monday March 8th marked International Women’s Day and celebrations took place around the world. In Romania, this policeman handed out flowers to women drivers. Your View contributor Sebastian Sascau framed his picture perfectly to show the driver in the rear view mirror. His subtle use of focus leads the eye around the frame until it settles on the subject, the woman driver.
Height of photography
Talk about going to extremes to get the shot, Jan Slavicek holds his nerve to capture this image of a climber in Slovakia.
Hunting foxes and photos
Darius Ivan uses the foggy background to bring his subject into focus in this frame from a fox hunt in the west Ireland county of Galway. By catching the movement of both the horse and hounds perfectly, Darius has created one of this week’s most memorable photos.
Festival stories
Boian Hristov has been a regular contributor to Your View for some time now but it’s his pictures from the recent masquerade festival in Bulgaria that have struck me the most. Boian has managed to capture the individual stories within the festival and created compelling portraits of those involved by pulling them clear of the background. A selection of some of the best are below.
It’s all white in black and white
With all the pictures of the recent snowfalls across the U.S., this one stood out in it’s simplicity. A quiet moment in a private space where photographer Anindya Chakraborty captured the beauty of nature.
Pain: A close-up view
Sometimes it takes getting in close to a situation to really capture what the subject is going through. Your View contributor Mohamed Heikkal Ismail does exactly that in this photograph of a boy grimacing as he is circumcised in Malaysia.
A top business model
Your View contributor Fuad Abdullah had to go to great heights to capture this image, taken on top of the Tangkuban Perahu volcano in Indonesia. Making the effort to explore different locations can often result in intriguing photographs.
