Now poised to win his 100th cap and just six goals behind Bobby Charlton’s all-time England scoring record of 49 goals, the bare statistics suggest he has achieved that.

Serbia must dig deep against Denmark, says Tosic

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Serbia, docked three points after crowd trouble marred their previous game, will have to dig deep in an empty stadium when they face Denmark in a Euro 2016 home qualifier on Friday, according to winger Zoran Tosic.

“We expected a lot more at this stage of the qualifying campaign but nothing we planned came to fruition and we now have to start from square one,” CSKA Moscow’s Tosic told reporters at Serbia’s Stara Pazova training base.

Mutual respect among fans as Olympiakos win in Belgrade

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Former champions Olympiakos Piraeus won 62-57 at Red Star Belgrade in a fervent yet respectful Euroleague atmosphere on Friday while Milos Teodosic starred in CSKA Moscow’s 95-85 triumph over Unicaja Malaga.

Red Star and Olympiakos supporters, who treat each other as brethren due to their identical red-and-white strips and the Christian Orthodox faith of the two countries, mingled happily in a jam-packed Belgrade Arena.

Cedevita stun Maccabi while Barca edge Fenerbahce

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Croatian upstarts Cedevita Zagreb produced one of the biggest shocks in Euroleague history when they stunned holders Maccabi Tel Aviv 83-73 on Thursday while former winners Barcelona edged Fenerbahce 80-78.

Back in Europe’s premier club basketball competition after making an early exit with a 2-8 record on their debut in the 2012-13 season, Cedevita celebrated their first win after three successive defeats this term.

Serbia get walkover versus Albania, three points deducted

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Serbia have been awarded a 3-0 walkover against Albania for last week’s Euro 2016 qualifier, abandoned following a brawl between the players after a flag stunt, but also had three points deducted, the Serbian FA said on Friday.

Serbia have also been ordered to play their next two home games in Group I behind closed doors, while both teams have been fined 100,000 euros (78,716.27 pounds) following the chaotic scenes at the match in Belgrade, the Serbian FA added.

IOC to discuss possible Kosovo Olympic recognition: spokesman

BELGRADE (Reuters) – The International Olympic Committee will discuss the possibility of granting Kosovo Olympic recognition at its Executive Board meeting this week, an official said, a move that has angered Serbian Olympic officials.

“We can confirm that Kosovo will be addressed at the Executive Board (starting on Wednesday) and discussed on Friday,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams told Reuters.
