Soccer-Netherlands beat Germany to win Under-17 Euro title

NOVI SAD, Serbia, May 15 (Reuters) – Netherlands won their
first Under-17 European Championship after two goals by striker
Tonny Trindade de Vilhena helped them to a 5-2 win over Germany
in an entertaining final on Sunday.

The Dutch, who also beat Germany 2-0 in the group stage,
twice came from behind in their third final at this level to
avenge a 2-1 defeat by the Germans in the 2009 showpiece.

Soccer-Vojvodina charged by FA after Cup final farce

BELGRADE, May 12 (Reuters) – Vojvodina Novi Sad have been
charged by the Serbian FA (FSS) after abandoning their Cup final
with Partizan Belgrade, the governing body said on Thursday.

“Disciplinary charges have been pressed against the
Vojvodina Novi sad club, their staff, officials and players,”
the FSS said in a statement following Wednesday’s final.

Cup final farce deals another blow to Serbia’s reputation

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Serbia’s soccer reputation took another hit on Wednesday when their domestic Cup final ended in farce after Vojvodina Novi Sad’s players walked off the pitch in protest over controversial refereeing decisions, handing Partizan Belgrade their 12th Serbian Cup title.

Partizan were leading 2-1 when Vojvodina had an 80th minute goal ruled out. The disallowed effort came just after referee Slobodan Veselinovic had awarded Partizan a harsh-looking penalty which Zvonimir Vukic converted.

Resilient Djokovic downs Lopez to win Serbia Open

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Novak Djokovic won the Serbia Open without dropping a set after beating Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6 6-2 in Sunday’s final to stretch his unbeaten record in 2011 to 27 matches.

It was the 23-year-old Serb’s fifth title this year, after he captured the Australian Open, the Dubai Championships as well as Masters series events in Indian Wells and Miami.

The 23-year old Serb, who will meet compatriot and close friend Janko Tipsarevic on Saturday for a berth in Sunday’s final, showed some nerves in the second set before he stretched his unbeaten run in 2011 to 26 matches.
