BELGRADE (Reuters) – There was Turkish delight and Spanish sorrow on a night of frantic Euroleague playoff action as Anadolu Efes Istanbul beat Real Madrid while Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus sank Barcelona on Tuesday.

American guard Matt Janning scored a three-pointer on the buzzer to give Anadolu a 75-72 home win over Real and cut their lead in the best-of-five quarter-final series to 2-1, with Game Four taking place in Istanbul on Thursday.

Fenerbahce reach Euroleague Final Four, CSKA held

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Fenerbahce Istanbul became the first team to qualify for the Euroleague Final Four as a 75-74 overtime win at Maccabi Tel Aviv on Monday completed a 3-0 sweep of the holders in the best-of-five quarter-final series.

However, the competition’s six-time winners CSKA still have work to do after an 86-85 defeat at Panathinaikos reduced their lead to 2-1, with Game Four scheduled for Wednesday.

Real surge clear as Barca are pegged back

BELGRADE (Reuters) – – Real Madrid took a 2-0 lead over Anadolu Efes Istanbul in their Euroleague best-of-five quarter-final series on Friday while Barcelona wasted home court advantage against Olympiakos Piraeus.

Real beat Anadolu 90-85 in an absorbing clash with the lead changing hands time and again. A resilient Olympiakos drew level 1-1 with Barca after a 76-63 victory.

CSKA and Fenerbahce close in on Euroleague Final Four

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Six-time Euroleague winners CSKA Moscow and dark horses Fenerbahce Istanbul took 2-0 leads against their rivals in the competition’s best-of-five quarter-finals after sparkling home wins on Thursday.

CSKA blew away Panathinaikos 100-80 and Fenerbahce brushed aside holders Maccabi Tel Aviv 82-67 as both sides moved within one win of reaching the May 15-17 Final Four in Madrid.

CSKA and Fenerbahce edge ahead in Euroleague playoffs

(Reuters) – CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce drew first blood in the Euroleague’s best-of-five playoffs with contrasting home wins over their respective rivals on Tuesday.

A rampant CSKA blew away Panathinaikos 93-66 while Fenerbahce eked out an 80-72 victory against holders Maccabi Tel Aviv after overcoming an 11-point second-half deficit.

Real pip Barca at the top of Euroleague group

BELGRADE, (Reuters) – Real Madrid ended the Euroleague’s second group stage with a 99-83 win over Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday to clinch top spot in their section and book a best-of-five quarter-final against Anadolu Efes Istanbul.

Rivals Barcelona finished second in Group E after an 88-65 victory at Galatasaray earned a clash with triple former winners Olympiakos Piraeus, the third-placed team in Group F.

Maccabi and Panathinaikos reach playoffs

BELGRADE (Reuters) – Euroleague holders Maccabi Tel Aviv, six-times winners Panathinaikos and Anadolu Efes Istanbul clinched the competition’s final three playoff berths in contrasting fashion on Thursday.

Maccabi sealed their passage with a 73-64 win at direct rivals Alba Berlin and while the result eliminated the German side, it also sent through Panathinaikos despite their dramatic 69-68 defeat at Red Star Belgrade.

Partizan brushed aside Jagodina 2-0 away for a 5-0 overall rout of last year’s finalists and Cukaricki celebrated the biggest success in their history with a 4-1 win at neighbours Vozdovac after beating them 2-0 in the first leg.
